Dead Dany is called "the Daughter of Death". By the end of Robert's Rebellion saw the end of Dany's entire House. Her father and brother had been killed, while Dany's mother died in childbirth. She and Viserys were taken into exile and protected by Ser Willem Darry. This was the last semblance of a home she ever experienced, as after he died, Viserys and Dany were forced to move and rely on the hospitalities of others. However, this meant they were ridiculed and mocked, as well as suffering from poverty. This stayed with Dany, as she has tried to avoid living that way again. When Khal Drogo received an infected wound, Dany bargained with Mirri Maz Duur to save his life, promising a life for a life. However, she was deceived, her unborn child was killed instead, and Drogo was a hollow husk. Dany was forced to mercy kill him before burning him on a pyre with her dragon eggs around him and Mirri Maz Duur tied to one part of the pyre.
Friendly Dany is a friendly person. Once she married Khal Drogo and came into her own strength, she made friends with her handmaidens and a few of Khal Drogo's Dothraki. She had hoped that friendliness would expand to Mirri Maz Duur, but she learned a lesson about trusting too naively. She relied on thus lesson when she met the 3 from Qaarth, knowing not to trust Xaro Xhoan Daxos, she would flirt but always maintain a level of mistrust. Hence, she never accepts his marriage proposal, knowing he wants her dragons. She also waits for Arstan Whitebeard and Belwas to prove themselves trustworthy to her. Sadly, she did not consider doing the same with Jorah, learning that he betrayed her by providing information to Mary's, which nearly lead to her assassination. Still, she does not fully close off her heart or stop showing kindness to others.
Dance A "Dance" is often used as a term for war, particularly regarding the Targaryen civil war. Thus, it can be appliped to the wars that Dany faces in "A Dance with Dragons." After freeing the slaves of Yuunkai, Meereen, and Astapor, Dany settled in Meereen to rule her people. However, war is coming to Dany from a growing coalition. First, the Sons of the Harpy engage in a shadow war, by killing freedmen, Shavepates (nobles who've abandoned their old ways and joined Dany), and her Unsullied. The former slave masters join together, along with mercenaries, to fight Dany. Her former freed cities fall, leading to Yuunkai and Astapor to fall. More and more, her back is pressed against the wall, as the threat grows, forcing her into decisions she morally disagrees with. First, marrying a former noble, opening the slave pits again, shutting out refugees who need her help, and allowing the former free kingdoms of Yunkaai and Astapor to resume slavery. It all culminates with her flying away on Drogon, accidentally abandoning her people, as she goes on a metaphorical journey of soul searching.
Child One of the tragedies in Dany's story is that, because of Mirri Maz Duur, Dany has lost the ability to ever bear a child. However, because of the spell "a life for a life", Dany receives 3 dragons from Drogo's pyre. She views her dragons as her children, even going so far as to breastfeed the dragons in their early days. They bond with Dany and respond to her as their mother, by protecting her as well as staying close to her side. When Dany frees the slaves of Astapor, Yuunkai, and Meereen, she comes to view them as her children as well. This is what ultimately leads her to reject the off to return to Westeros, as she would only be given 13 ships and it would not be enough for her to take the freedmen with her. She refuses to seek out her inheritance, by claiming the Iron Throne, as she doesn't feel she could abandon her people. She still thinks of the child she'll never have, though, it is strongly implied at the end of ADWD that she has had a miscarriage and may have a child in the future.
Door Throughout the series, Dany often reflects and dream of a Red Door. This likely is from a home she shared with Ser Willem Darry in Braavos, the last place that felt like home for her. It was a house with a red door and a lemon tree outside her window. Red Doors pop up several times in her dreams or imaginings. At the House of the Undying, a mystical place the draws on images from her past, present, and future, the red door appears before her. She dreams of the Red Keep, imagining that each door is a red one, symbolizing her hope that her family's former seat could be a home for her again. She even imagines living as a simple woman in a house with a red door. It's a common motif that shows up multiple times in the books for her.
